How it started
First, a blog! Yes, at last, here I am blogging again.
Some might say this whole adventure started when Dan and I first started dating back in 1993. At some point in our young relationship, we realized that we both found the Bed & Breakfast life enchanting. I’m not even sure why it appealed to us, but I would guess it had something to do with growing up around our big Polish families where there was no such thing as an intimate gathering. Every party was BIG and loud and there remains no feeling quite like dodging, aunts and uncles, conspiring with cousins, and licking fast, but never fast enough to keep Bomb Pops from dripping down my legs on a hot summer day at Grandma’s.
Now that we’ve grown up some more and I know us much better, I can say with confidence that we both loved the feeling of family—of face to face interaction in a welcoming community, and maybe we even felt it beginning to diminish as we sent our first email messages and wondered what the the future held for this weird new thing called the Internet.
Wherever we went from there on out, we cherished most the moments that felt like family. Along the Potomac for the 4th of July, around the Thanksgiving dinner table in our second apartment in Northern Virginia, pre-game tailgates at Spartan Stadium with dear college friends, and Pierogi Day with the Oginsky family. We both love evidence that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
In the very beginning. I suspect that’s where all the little seedlings that sprouted into the here and now were first planted.
